Cimbalom & Piano

Who are we?

Tamás Bácsi & Gabriela Tannertová
  • Graduated students from the Lisz Academy of Music in Budapest
  • Hungarian pianist with a Czech cimbalom player
  • We have played series of concerts in the Czech Republic and Budapest
  • We have created unique concert programs based on pieces for cimbalom and piano mostly from 20th and 21st century combined with solo pieces for both instruments

Our story

After saving my life in dangerous part of Budapest in my first month of studies, Tamás Bácsi became one of my first friends at the Liszt Academy of Music. There started a close friendship. Few weeks later we agreed on studying together Concerto fantazia – piece written by Milan Báchorek. There started our musical collaboration (in autumn 2015). We have worked with professors from the Academy as Ilona Szeverényi, András Szalai and Orsolya Szabó. Since that we have organised many different successful concerts around Czech Republic and Budapest. We are also enthusiastically opened to cooperate with composers, who would like to write a piece for us and this unusual instrumental combination.

Tamás Bácsi

His journey with the piano began at the age of 5 and just one year later he already won 3rd prize at the National Mozart Piano Competition in Budapest. At the age of 9, Thomas won the X. National Piano Competition alongside the Veroszta Magda Special Prize. Later that year he also got accepted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music’s Special School for Exceptional Young Talents, where he began working with Zsuzsanna Eszto and Istvan Gulyas. Upon his arrival in Toronto, Edith Lantos – Teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music – saw the potential in him and helped him start his career in Canada. He was a scholarship student at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Young Artists’ Performance Academy (now called Taylor Academy of Music) learning from distinguished professors such as Marina Geringas, Dianne Werner-Simon & Jim Anagnoson. He won  competitions for piano solo, piano duo and own compositions. After finishing his Pre-school studies in Canada, Tamás moved back to Hungary to begin his undergraduate studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music with Istvan Gulyas and Nemethy Attila. He has entered international piano competitions with great success in countries like Austria and the Czech Republic. He finished his Undergraduate studies in Madrid at the Royal Conservatory (Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Madrid) with the mentorship of Mar Gutierrez & Ignacio Marin Bocanegra as a Scholarship student. He had the possibility to perform at numerous Concert halls in and around Madrid during that year. Tamás is currently finishing his Graduate studies this year at the Franz Liszt Academy.
